Postnatal Home Consult

Once you book a consultation, I will send you a short google form to fill out. It should take about 10 minutes to complete and asks for information about you and your baby; including your pregnancy and birth, a brief medical history and if you’ve had any previous breastfeeding experience.

I will call to your home on our agreed date and time and meet you and your baby. You can talk about any concerns or challenges you’re facing and we can discuss various options together and try to figure out the next step.

Please try not to feed your baby for at least an hour before our appointment, so that I can do a feeding assessment and observe how your baby latches to the breast, as well as an oral examination of your baby’s mouth.

There is nearly always a breastfeeding solution to a breastfeeding problem, but quite often, it’s not a quick fix. Breastfeeding is a skill that both you and your baby have to learn together and it can take time and practice to feel like you’re getting a handle on it.

Breastfeeding also doesn’t have to be an all or nothing experience. Breastfeeding can look different for different people. For example, some people discover that exclusive breastfeeding isn’t possible for them (either by choice or by necessity), so they will combination feed (offer a mix of breastmilk and formula). Others might choose to pump and feed their baby breastmilk in a bottle or use a supplemental nursing system at the breast.

Whatever your goals, I can provide you with evidence-based information and non-judgmental support to help you figure out the solution that works best for you and your family.
